Co-founders
The studio was founded under the name Ekeby Dansstudio, by Sylvi Nordström and Evelyn Moore.
History
Ekeby Dansstudio was started in the fall of 1992 with 4 teachers Sylvi Nordstörm, Evelyn Moore, Cecilia Ancieta and Marianne Sandin offering classes in jazz, children dance, ballet, tap and hip-hop. As a new studio was being renovated, classes were taught in 4 different locations. In the winter of 1992 classes were taught in a new space at Ekeby Bruk, hence the name “Ekeby” Dansstudio.
In the fall of 1995 the company moved to Svamptorget in Norby with 6 teachers and an enrollment of 400 students. By 2006 Ekeby Dansstudio has 15 teachers and a growing enrollment of more than 600.
Goal
Our goal at Ekeby Dansstudio is to give students a chance to experience dance in a relaxed, fun and enjoyable atmosphere.
Programs
Ekeby Dansstudio offers 50 classes each week for a student body of over 600. Courses range from beginning through advanced levels in children dance, jazz, ballet, modern, tap, funk, street, show, mix, break, hip-hop, Latin, salsa, and afro. Workshops and summer programs offer students classes with new teachers and arts(ie.drama) and collaborations with schools has allowed Ekeby to introduce dance to students that may not have considered dance as an alternative sport.
Scholarship program
Ekeby Dansstudio Scholarship Program was started in 1992 and established to give students with an aspiration to dance a chance to receive good training at a low cost. It is not unusual for a student to dance for free if they are talented or passionate but can not afford the cost of fees. Many of the students are now teachers or professional performers appearing on television, recording artist or enjoying a career on the stage.
Teachers
Our teachers educations are wide and varied ranging from Danshögskolan and Balettakademien, to the scholarship program, or performance experience. You can see many of the teachers performing on tv or on stage during the term. And they are motivated to give the students some of the energy and education they have acquired through their experiences.
